Herichthys pearsei, names include ‘Cichlasoma ‘ ‘exCichlasoma pearsei’, also seen it called ‘vieja’.

Common name(s): Pearse Cichlid, Pantano cichlid.

Origin: Central America, found in the water ways of Guatemala and Mexico

Food and feeding:

Wild fish are known to feed on a range of algae and both aquatic and terrestrial plants.
Even though this is a large bodied fish it has a small mouth and any foods need to be appropriately sized. Most commercial pellets work fine as a staple but algae or plant based types a better choice. Some will feed peas (shelled) along with romaine lettuce.
